Working as a documentary filmmaker has allowed me

Working as a documentary filmmaker has allowed me to meet incredible characters and listen to amazing stories firsthand. One of the things I enjoy the most is working as a disaster relief documentary filmmaker where, together with my team, we have been able to help people with our filmmaking skills. It has been the case after the 2016 earthquake and 2017 floodings in Manabi (Ecuador), the 2017 earthquake in Mexico, after the hurricanes Harvey, Ida, and Maria, the landslides in Freetown (Sierra Leona), the 2018 volcano in Hawaii, a number of wildfires, or the Ukrainian Refugees in Western Europe, just to name a few.

This time, I find myself in Fort Myers, Southwest Florida, working in a disaster relief mission with @tzuchiusa who is expecting to provide help to over 3000 families. Resilience and generosity. Nancy is a survivor. During the lockdown in 2020, she delivered food to thousands of New Yorkers who were struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic. That's exactly what she was doing when an intoxicated driver swerved off the road and hit her. She didn't see the car coming. Single mother of three, she lost one leg and miraculously saved the other. With an incredible strength, Nancy recovers. “There are people who even say ‘How is it possible that I can laugh?’ I say, ‘and why not?’

“A few scenes from a fashion film I wrote and directed for @voguemexico to accompany photos taken by @juaahdz for the December issue, starring the amazing @luisana_gonzalez24 and @thereal_chopchop

The story follows a someone who has recently immigrated to NYC and is thriving in their new setting, and is about the tension between giving yourself over to the thrill of romantic relationships versus listening to your own voice and putting other priorities in life first. The title is “Control”, and we shot it on 16mm.
